Kimmswick, MO

The 12 miles on Sunday was not enough to show Reenie what it is like to travel by boat. She also wanted to see St. Louis from the river side. The plan was to get going by 7;30 but when we called the first lock, he said to wait for 1/2 hour, which we did. The wait at the lock was another hour so we didn't get through until 9:30. Reenie learned how to do the locks today. There were 2 of them to go through. The second one made us wait about 2 hours while he lifted barges through first.

the lines.

The highlight of the day was going by the arch in St.Louis. There are so many pictures of it that taking some
myself is a real treat!

We cruised down the Mississippi River 44 miles today. The temperature was 74 degrees so we only had 3 layers on today. There were alot of barges on the river today. Traveling down the river is great for saving on fuel-we got about 1 mile to the gallon!! That is good for our boat!! Our destination tonight is Kimmswick, MO. All that is there for boats is a barge. We did put on some fuel because there isn't anyplace in the next couple of days. Fern takes care of the boats that stay here and almost all the pleasure boats stop at one time or another. She went through all the charts with us and gave us information on the stops for the next few days plus some pointers when we get on the next rivers.

Reenie's trip is over! Mark came to pick her up and we all went out to eat. It was great to see them both and spend some time with them.
